It's a Kimber Model 8400 L.A. Police Tactical in .300 Winchester Magnum. It comes from the box with a trued up bolt face, glass bedded action, Match Grade chamber, and hand lapped barrel. I'm going to scope it with a Leupold Mark IV 16X in either Leupold, or Badger Ordance rings. The factory base is steel with a 20 MOA taper. The optics are on hold for at least a while because I spent the allocation on these:

A Kimber Stainless II 1911, and a Ruger Mark III. I hope to get both of them cranked up if the damn weather ever clears up. This is like living in Chicago. Bill T.

Looking good. Wish I had the money. But I did pick up a Savage 112 Competition 300 Win mag. With a 26'' tube and wood laminate stock.Looking it over, it seem to have been used very little. 8-)

I'm on a big .300 Win. Mag. kick lately. I bought my first one way back in 1972. It's a Remington 700 BDL sporter with impressed Fleur De Lis checkering. It was one of the few they made back then with a blued Stainless Steel barrel. It was expensive because Remington had to plate the barrel with carbon steel so they could blue it. The gun doesn't have a mark on it, and is accurate as hell. This is a crappy pic of it. Click on it to enlarge it.

I just finished setting up this Savage 110 FCP-K a few months back, and I am so happy with it, I jumped when I saw this Kimber. I do stuff like this from time to time. I buy in spurts. I'm going to hold off until I can get this Leupold Mark IV 16X for it. It's an amazing scope. It's got a full 140 minutes of elevation adjustment. The most of any Leupold model. 70 minutes each way from center. With a 20 MOA rail that will give me a full 90 minutes of up elevation. I did some quick calculations. Pushing a Sierra 190 Grain Matchking out the muzzle at 2,900 FPS, a 12.9" high setting at 100 yards will give me a 600 yard zero. That only amounts to a -175.6" drop at 1,000 yards. I could easily crank that out with this Leupold without coming anywhere near the stops. The newest Sierra manual gives a maximum velocity of 3,000 FPS with the 190 Grain Matchking and 72.2 grains of IMR 4831, which equates to even less drop. I'm going to have some fun with this thing! Bill T.

Not yet. It's on my list. I bought 8 pounds of IMR 4831 this past fall. It's always been my "go to" powder for most belted magnums. I've used Reloader 25 in both my .300 Weatherby and .338-378 Weatherby, with good luck. Reloader 25 is a tad too slow for the .300 Win. Mag. Reloader 22 is better suited. I'll pick up a couple pounds when I go into high gear with my Summertime handloading. That is usually my plan. I cook up loads when it's too hot to shoot in the Summer, then prove them out in the cooler weather. Bill T.

I'am with you, I like IMR4831 and Reloader 22. I did some work with AC 3100, not bad, but like 4831 and 22 better.

I'm still getting used to the fluted barrel. They went nuts on the mill. Bill T.

The flutes on the barrel of the new Ruger Mark III pistols are really deep. When I first saw them I didn't like them at all because they looked overly deep for the diameter of the barrel, especially on the blued models. But now I'm kind of getting used to the look. The gloss surface on the blued models makes the fluting stand out more as well. Bill T.
