So I was at a certain CCW class yesterday ;) and was told the new CCW without permit bill is dead. What a bummer. I would have still taken the class and got the permit.

While I think it is unfortunate for Freedom,
I am glad for guys like Hanson. Besides I already got two CCW's plus one I Permit Myself.

That was my thought. I'm all for the freedom but you know 95% of people would not get the training. :|

So giving up a "right" is alright with you guys? It should be an option to have CCW for reciprococity. I find it unfortunate that you guys are ok with giving up right, just to support instructors. Permits should not exist, anywhere.

While I agree with both sides, I don't believe a no CCW required would be a good thing. Personally, I'd still take the class, but maybe instead of requiring the class to get a permit, maybe require a short gun safety class before being able to buy your first gun.
I see the other side though, we have the right to bear arms without any prereqs, so why require a permit at all? The criminals are going to carry no matter what, and I'm sure the average joe could get away with carrying and never get caught.

Dude, don't make like it's a permanent setback. I guarantee this will be revisited as it is on the AZCDL's list of things to do. I don't think it is ok for Freedom to be blocked, but sometimes you have to pick your fights, this isn't something you can punch your way out of.
BTW, I was ineligible for a CCW permit for many years, during much of that time I simply "permitted myself" to carry. The guns I carried during those self-permitting years were certainly smaller, as I had to be extra-careful not to get caught, but were deadly nonetheless. Many times I have had to pick between God's law and Man's. Remember, rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6

NOT AT ALL. I took the class knowing that there was the possibility of not having to. I believe in freedom, training and accountability. It is to bad many people do not.

Blake, when I think about your thought of a requirement to take a class before buying a first gun, I must say it disappoints me. Think about what you are saying, you are talking about a further loss of Freedom. Nobody has the right to crap on Freedom, unfortunately many people are doing it anyhow. If you can, think back to Zumbo, and the quick and irreversible effect a very few words he thoughtlessly wrote, that forever changed his life, and a lifetime of hard work on his part.

Bummer you haven't been paying attention, once the foot is in the door, won't be long before the leg and torso follow. Giving up any right is paramount to giving up freedoms, if its one you do not care about, at least have the decency to be concerned about others and their rights. Just wondering if you played baseball, get some training on how not to use it, or just to hit balls. yeah right, logic doesn't work does it.
hey heres hoping the future will enlighten you to the real world and its needs to have Americans that will be American and not just PC.
happy Thursday to the survivors, you others too bad.

I had to wiki Zumbo. Insightful to say the least. But what he said could be translated to any other "industry". Such as, "I don't think we should allow children to play violent video games at all. children are impressionable and letting them play these games will only desensitize them to death and destruction. I propose the government lock down ALL sales of violent video games to adults and children. No more violent games at all." - No, I don't agree with that statement at all, but I hope you get my point.

A class was merely an alternative.

I'll also add that I'm too young to remember a time before CCW's and gun control laws.

Let's see what the final legislation is... I have a good source that is close to this and I will see if I can get more inside info.

80% of any given class will NOT further thier training at all. Any CCW class is only a start in getting info needed to make the best possible decision. Sad that most will not further thier investment....

What I know of now is that the training requirement was put back in for getting a CCW permit. I am waiting for a reply about carrying concealed in AZ with out a permit. I keep getting back and forth info.

I will keep it posted on what I get.

True enough about the any other industry part,
the thing that gets gun owners pissed off is that the gun industry receives much more than it's share of attention already. Local, state& federal governments all are attempting to regulate our guns. As if that isn't enough, the anti-gunners & PETA & every other nut out there is trying to hinder us too. Just to put the final layer on the cake every once in a while some Zumbo comes along and says something that the anti-gunners can embrace, like how wrong it is to use an AR-type rifle when you are hunting game, on account of the fact that he was small minded and could not (at that time) grasp that hunters who are taking game are still taking game, whether they do so with a machine-gun, or a big rock. I bet a guy who is accustomed to taking game with his single shot musket might just feel like a bolt action zumbo-type gun is an unfair advantage. It isn't about FAIR, it's about FREEDOM
And Blake, I don't want you feeling like I'm trying to correct or crap on you, this is just how I feel about it. Everybody deserves to feel some way about anything.

I'd expect nothing else from a group of people passionate about what they love.

Please know I am in no way anti-gun. I just wasn't thinking about the big picture :)

So I got to looking. No ccw requirement passed committe 5-2. When they reconvene it will be put before the vote. Whoever said it was crushed is mistaken and obviously trying to command money by misleading most of the ignorant public. Still on the table and has a good chance to go with current house and senate.

Always a good thing to double check before posting misguided rumors.

Be careful, the man you say is "obviously trying to command money by misleading most of the ignorant public" has earned the respect he gets.

HB 2347 is gone, it is a strike everything bill now.

SB 1102 is still there, they have placed the training requirement back on the bill for obtaining a CCW permit. As for the requirement for a CCW permit while in AZ is still out there and we will not know what is going to happen till around May of 2010 I would guess.

SB 1102 is not the same bill as it was originally introduced at all. It has been admended. The question I was asked was... Are they doing away with the trainging requirement and and the CCW permit all together, as of now that is not going to happen.

I am not misleeding anyone and never would, If anyone thinks that they can kiss my ass!

Respectfully,
John

Before "Assuming" what someone said, always know what was actually said and discussed, before you claim that a person is scamming people for money.
