i have two new romanian drum mags and both of them looses spring tension.

i opened the back, pushed the button to let the tension off spring, loaded mag with 75 rnds, closed back and clipped it,wound four complete turns, shoot around twenty rounds and the damm thing looses tension. there was one time i actually felt the spring loosen after a shot . any ideas?

Are these both brand new? I thought you were supposed to only do a max of 3 complete revolutions?

Maybe I should actually take mine out and shoot it to make sure there are no problems with it. :?

I was reading about this on another forum, and they all claimed the romanians were decent drums, and it was also noted that they were supposedly sealed and unable to dissassemble, well I guess thats not so. Remove bolt and remove goodies, perhaps its dirty or something has fallen amiss.
heres hoping you finger this one out,

The original romanian drums are toploaders and don't come apart I believe. The new 'romanian' drums are actually chinese style backloaders but supposedly made in romania.

I just checked my instructions, they do say 4 turns, not 3. However I just checked the instructions on J&G's website, which is where the drums came from and their instructions say 7 turns for full tension.

Hmm.....

i did load them up again and i couldn't get 7 turns. the most i could get was 6 on one and 5/12 on the other. i manually unloaded them with my fingers/thumb ( those phukn edges are sharp on the feed lips  ). they seemed to unload fine, but on each one i had no tension when i pushed a round out. i don't know if it was i didn't push the round out fast enough or what ( those phukn edges are sharp ). i turned the drum over and touched the wind up ( and i meen just tuched it nothing else ) and the tension went back to good and i could unload the rest of the rounds.

I bought 2 a bit ago and had issues...yeah sharp ain't the word! I don't believe it was 7 turns but both were bad. Clean up and took back for exchange and finally got one to run good with 70 rounds in it...but wiggled a bit. The second one I traded for ammo. Was told not to file/clean up the edges if I wanted to return these.

Wound up selling the one that worked just cause I don't store them loaded and hated guessing near the end of 68 or 71 rounds firing. For the money I like the real no rear-door Romanian units that load OK and fit really nice.

Anyway, IMHO they are fine but not nearly as good as the China units in as far as the function/quality...but way cheaper. I drive near them nearly every month so the return thing was not a pain, now if I had to ship it I would have cashed out.

I have found the Chinese drums, both in .223 and 7.62 function the best. I have had no luck with the Romanian drums :(

Are you going to be trying anything different? Just turning the tension more?

wellllllllllllllllllllll, one of the drums worked great by turning it the few more turns ( turn it until it stops ) :D , buuuuuuuuttttttttt the other wouldn't work worth a sh1t  . tried to turn it and at about the third rev the spring tension let loose ( that phukn key hurts on cold fingers  ). it did this twice. irishclaymore got to get spring tension to hold, but after eight or ten rounds fired the tension was gone. guess i'll be calling j&g tomorrow.

i would recommend you guys load these drums up and take them out and try them through the weapon.

That sucks :( I should have taken mine out yesterday. I'm just having a hard time finding the willpower to burn through 150rds to try it out. Can't afford to do that at the moment. :x

Did you call J&G yet? I'm kind of curious as to how they will handle it. It doesn't look like I will get my drum out for probably a couple more weeks but I'm anxious to try it out to find out if it works or not.

I don't shoot my AK, and hate to take it out just to check the drum...

Update please!
