To a SHTF blade.

http://www.m4040.com/Survival/Ghurka/Kh ... cation.htm

I just ordered a Kukri from BUDK and picked up some paracord from Allied Surplus here in town. Next week, am ordering the coating, and hopefully, it will turn out half as nice as this guys work.

Stay tuned!

This only cost $20 plus shipping, as seen in the pictures. Love the blade, but hate the ridge in middle of the handle. That, and the cheap goatskin sheath cover really IS flimsy like the guy says. That, and what keeps it from being decent carry on a belt or backpack, is the kinda lame sheath frog. I will get pictures up of work done so far.

Had one years ago. It was good at choping wood and finishing off a whitetail after being shot. 8-)

I am starting this off by saying our own Glockmonger did all the heavy lifting on this. Not that I wasnt able too, but once I ground those lugs off the full tang blade off, he sorta insisted "Here, let me see it..." Later, the ridge around the handle (very annoying) was gone. Now it felt ten times better. Not only that, but the reverse edge was put on it. (Guy is GOOD at this stuff!!). Ok, enough babbling, here are the pics (if anyone needs closeups, will take better pics):

Closeup of the reverse edge.

550 paracord wrapped around the handle. This is approximately 12'. I left it there, as it will do until I find out the right amount and get another wrap or two around the handle. The wrap is a simple simple single wrap that really involves nothing more than keeping it tight as you wind around the handle. When done, I intend to leave enough paracord for a short lanyard.

When ya get'r done. We'll have to put a bit of an edge on it. At least enough to let it's weight do it's job.

I dunno dude: do you think it needs more of an edge? I saw you whack that two by three with it, seemed like it did a handy job of the task.
No worries though, I am thinking next step is a more functional sheath vs that "stock" sheath.
And RJ? If you are reading this, contact me.

NICE WORK DONE ON THE KUKRIS,SHTF BLADE IS RIGHT, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU USE THESE FOR? THATS WHY I HAVE TWO, ONE FOR EACH HAND. THE ONLY PROBLEM WOULD BE GETTING THEM OUT OF THEIR FRIGGING SHEATH'S. LOL

Mike: if you look close at those blades, they are basically machete blades formed like a kukri. They have a bit more mass at the tip of the blade, but I can guarantee you that they are two different animals. Spend a wee bit more, and get the original shit?

I do agree on that for a fact. the original Kukris's have a tad more weight on them which is a contributing factor to inertial swing of the blade. the cold steel stamped sheet metal version are inexpensive to mass produce where as the original Kukris is forged thus weighing in at one to two pound's.
you can usually find the originals really cheap if you look good enough. Try SARCO.com Ps. I personally favor the cold steel due to it's lightness and it's slashing abilities.

Here's a bit of info on the Gurkha kukris

In this modern high tech day and age....a simple weapon that has lasted eons....gets the job done. No less thanks to the soldier wielding it as well!!

IF I was his CO: I would have mounted said head on a pike next to the entrance to their base. That would give those who stoutly believe that their "Religion of Peace" has met up with some old, former mates again. (Look how close Nepal is to Afghanistan)
